Ayurvedic Herbs

Shikakai  (Acacia Concinna)  is also known as Fruit For The Hair and comes to us from the pristine Himalayan mountains where it's grown in sustainable, certified Organic farms.

This herb might take some getting used to but can have excellent results as part of a non   "shampoo" wash.     Shikakai is excellent for long hair or to help promote beautiful growth and to strengthen hair roots while removing accumulated dandruff when used regularly on your hair and scalp.

This herb offers very mild balancing pH that gently cleans the hair.  Shikakai is somewhat abrasive, for best results massage gently, do not rub, into hair.  The deep penetrating effect will feed your hair and roots.  With regular use you'll notice and enjoy the increased bounce, shine and manageability of your hair.

You don't want to get this herb into your eyes, it WILL BURN, so be careful or rinse with water.  This ancient Indian herb has been used as a natural Rinse and Hair Wash for centuries.  Shikakai can be used several ways, this is one way that we use it for ourselves or for animals with coat conditions:

Do It Yourself Blends

Mix 2 heaping tablespoon or more, depending on hair length, of   Shikakai   powder with 2 heaping tablespoons of  Amalaki   powder in about 8oz. of very hot water.

Stir the mixture until well blended into a paste, then let sit 15 minutes or until it reaches a comfortable temperature for you.

Then thoroughly saturate your hair and apply the Shikakai paste to your hair.

Run your fingers gently, do not rub, through your hair and rinse thoroughly at the end of your shower, or give yourself a highly diluted Apple Cider Vinegar rinse, there is nothing like it to restore the natural pH balance to your hair.

Even though Shikakai offers excellent cleansing properties, sometimes I'll use a regular all natural shampoo, such as Castile or Goat Milk, or African Black soap bar or one of my favorite natural shampoo bars every few weeks between the weekly Shikakai rinse and wash.

Experiment and see what works for you.  The Amalaki is conditioning, but a Coconut or other hair oiling treatment really gives great results.

Shikakai Hair Oil  This is excellent for long hair to help promote beautiful natural hair growth and to strengthen hair roots while removing accumulated dandruff when used regularly on your hair and scalp.    Shikakai is abrasive, for best results massage gently, do not rub, into hair and leave on for several hours or overnight.  The deep pentrating effect will feed your hair and roots while you sleep.

Wash thoroughly the next morning and enjoy the increased shine and manageability of your hair.  Shikakai burns, keep out of your eyes or rinse immediately.   Used regularly, you should notice some favorable comments about your hair and feel the softness.  You'll be surprised how very little oil needs to be used with each application.  Contains:  Organic Shikakai, Organic Aloe Vera, Organic Amalaki, Neem leaf, Organic extra virgin Coconut and Castor oil.
Shikakai Hair Oil (4 oz Bottle ) - $16.95

Shikakai Amalaki Hair Oil   Is excellent for long hair to help promote beautiful growth and to strengthen hair roots while removing accumulated dandruff when used regularly on your hair and scalp.

Shikakai herb is abrasive, for best results massage gently, do not rub, into hair and leave on for several hours or overnight.  The deep pentrating effect will feed your hair and roots while you sleep.  Wash thoroughly the next morning and enjoy the increased shine and manageability of your hair.

Shikakai combined with Amalaki offers beneficial properties of both herbal plants.  Apply just a small amount to hair and scalp after washing or gently massaged in prior to washing or left on over night.  Can help promote sound sleep when massaged into the scalp.  This rich herbal blend has been used to help minimize hair loss and premature graying, considered a potent Ayurvedic rejuvenative.

You don't want to get this oil into your eyes, it WILL BURN, so be careful or rinse with water.  Used regularly, you should notice some favorable comments about your hair and feel the softness.  Contains:  Organic Shikakai, Organic Aloe Vera, Organic Amalaki, Neem leaf, Organic extra virgin Coconut and Castor oil.

Amalaki   powder is generally used to make herbal tea or added to other juices and drinks.    Amalaki can also be blended as a paste or tea for all natural hair care.

Even though Amalaki is a small natural fruit, it isn't something you find at most local supermarkets.    We buy our Certified Organic Amalaki  by the pound, it's less expensive and you can depend on the quality if you plan to blend this little fruit into yogurt or smoothies.

Amalaki Holy Basil Conditioner  sounds good enough to eat and is made with the same food grade ingredients, but it's intended to be used only for a hair conditioner.

You might also enjoy trying it with this unique Amalaki Shampoo   We sure enjoy how our hair feels after using it!

If you'd like to try something really earthy, this all natural shampoo made with Amalaki Clay and Holy Basil   is really exceptional.

Hibiscus Flower Petals  Have been used in Ayurvedic medicine to stimulate thicker hair growth and to prevent premature graying, hair loss and scalp disorders.   The petals act as a natural hair conditioner.

Hibiscus Flower   petal powder can be used in Ayurvedic hair washes, oil infusion treatments and apple cider vinegar rinses for the hair.

Use Hibiscus flower petals in combination with    Amalaki   powders.

Hibiscus not only makes a delicious herbal tea, is delicious to cook with but also is considered a beneficial floral to help balance and stabilize emotions, as an anti-inflammatory, helps prevent obesity, offers good antiseptic properties, is a recognized anti-tumor, has anti-spasmodic properties and 13 cancer prevention components.

Shikakai Hibiscus Hair Tea   It seems very pleasant to make a mini ritual of drinking a fresh glass of Hibiscus tea while blending the hair tea.

*   Put several tablespoons of this herbal blend into a tea ball
*   Pour 1 cup of boiling water of the herbs and steep for 30 minutes or so.
*   Once you remove the tea ball and the temperature is comfortable for you, it can be used immediately or kept in the fridge.
*   For best results use on oiled hair

Run your fingers through your hair to remove the herbal pieces, or strain before using.

This herbal blend may stain light color surfaces and it may add highlights or color to your hair.

Make sure you try a little on a sample of your hair first.

The Shikakai Hibiscus Hair Tea can also be used as a final rinse or lightly rinsed off after several hours, or leave it on overnight.

Contains:  Organic Amalaki, Organic Shikakai, Hibiscus flowers.
